  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Robert Benton vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic creations.

American filmmaker Robert Douglas Benton became the art director of Esquire magazine in 1958 and co-wrote the book The IN and OUT with Harvey Schmidt, published by The Viking Press in 1959. In 1966, he co-wrote with David Newman the book It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman and collaborated on the script for the film Bonnie and Clyde (1967) - which was an idea from his father Ellery Douglas Benton - and both received Academy Award nominations.

Robert Benton made his directorial debut with Bad Company (1972), starring Jeff Bridges and Barry Brown. He also directed The Late Show (1977) from his own screenplay and co-wrote for Superman (1978). The filmmaker received the Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director for Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), an adaptation of Avery Corman’s novel. Robert Benton got the Best Original Screenplay for Places in the Heart (1984), starring John Malkovich, Amy Madigan, Lindsay Crouse, and Ed Harris, and got another Academy Award for original screenplay. In 1987, Benton directed a comedy set Nadine starring Kim Basinger.

The acclaimed Hollywood director took three years to release his next project, Still of the Night (1982), starring Meryl Streep and Roy Scheider. He went on to direct Newman in Twilight (1998) and got the Best Adapted Screenplay for Nobody's Fool (1994). He teamed with Nicole Kidman on The Human Stain (2003), based on Philip Roth’s best-selling novel, which also stars Anthony Hopkins. Robert Benton also worked on The Ice Harvest (2005), and Feast of Love (2007), with strong performances by Morgan Freeman and Greg Kinnear, until his retirement.

Film/Art Gallery’s collection of original Robert Benton performance posters include a rare International style poster for acclaimed Robert Benton film, The Late Show, starring Lily Tomlin & Art Carney. The Robert Benton poster collection also includes a Yugoslavian poster version.
