  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original László Benedek vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic creations.

László Benedek, or Laslo Benedek, is a Hungarian-born filmmaker and cinematographer. He was best known for directing The Wild One in 1953. His motorcycle gang film caused a storm of controversy and was banned in the United Kingdom until 1968. The filmmaker also gained recognition for his direction of the film version of Death of a Salesman in 1951, which got him a Golden Globe Award for Best Director and a nomination from the Directors Guild of America.

László Benedek was born in Budapest, Hungary on March 5th, 1905. He worked in the film industry to pay his bills and decided to focus on that instead of studying being a psychiatrist. Early on, Benedek was a cinematographer on The Mistress in 1927 in Germany and an assistant director on The Great Longing in 1929 with Steve Sekely. After years of directing various films, he moved to England where he worked as a writer on The Secret of Stamboul in 1936. In 1937, László Benedek moved to the U.S. where he worked on the montage scenes of Test Pilot in 1938 at MGM. He also assisted in directing Song of Russia in 1944 and worked as an associate producer under Joe Pasternak.

From 1976 to 1980, László Benedek was the chairman of the graduate film program at New York University's School of arts. He also became a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, Film Academy in Munich, Germany, Rice University in Houston, and at Columbia University in New York City. He died in The Bronx, New York in 1992.

Film/Art Gallery’s collection of original László Benedek movie posters includes artwork of Clement Hurel for The Wild One starring Marlon Brando and Lee Marvin. Our László Benedek poster collection also includes artwork of Constantin Belinsky for the same film.
