  • Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Belladonna (Belladonna of Sadness) vintage movie posters, where we offer a wide range of artwork for one of cinema's fiction fantasy films.

Belladonna (Belladonna of Sadness) is the third and final film in the Animerama trilogy. The three films in the trilogy are A Thousand and One Nights (千夜一夜物語, Senya Ichiya Monogatari) (1969). Cleopatra (クレオパトラ, Kureopatora) (1970) and Belladonna of Sadness (哀しみのベラドンナ, Kanashimi no Beradonna) (1973).

Starring Aiko Nagayama as Jeanne, Katsutaka Ito as Jean, Tatsuya Tashiro as the Witch, Tatsuya Nakadai as The Devil and Masakane Yonekura as Catholic Priest.

Belladonna of Sadness (哀しみのベラドンナ, Kanashimi no Belladonna, also known as La Sorciere, Tragedy of Belladonna or simply Belladonna) is an adult 1973 feature film, inspired by Jules Michelet's 1862 non-fiction book La Sorcière. Produced by the Japanese animation studio Mushi Production, directed and co-written by Eiichi Yamamoto.

It follows the story of Jeanne, a laborer woman who is raped which leads to her being accused of sorcery and is notable for its sensual, violent, and psychedelic imagery.

Jeanne and Jean are happy newlyweds in a countryside village in Medieval France. Their idyll is promptly shattered when Jeanne, on her wedding night, is raped in a ritual deflowering by the local baron and his courtiers. She returns to Jean terrified and in pain, and he calms her, saying, "Let us forget everything in the past". That night, Jeanne begins to see visions of a phallic-headed spirit who promises her power, which results in the couple's fortunes.

Film/Art Gallery's Belladonna (Belladonna of Sadness) movie poster collection includes a four-page press book/program (with text in English and French) for cult Anime film and a rare first Belgian release Belladonna poster.

Film/Art Gallery movie posters are original prints and film poster collectibles. These are original movie posters. We do not carry any movie poster reproductions or reprints of any kind.
