American space-opera epic film Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) is written and directed by George Lucas and Jonathan Hales. It is the second installment of the Star Wars prequel trilogy starring Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Natalie Portman as Senator Padmé Amidala, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Ian McDiarmid, Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu, Christopher Lee as Count Dooku / Darth Tyranus, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker and Frank Oz as the voice of Yoda. The story is set ten years after The Phantom Menace when Obi-Wan Kenobi investigates an assassination attempt on Senator Padmé Amidala and uncovers a clone army and the Separatist movement led by Nute Gunray. Obi Wan Kenobi's apprentice Anakin Skywalker is assigned to protect Amidala, and they eventually both developed a forbidden secret relationship against the backdrop threat of Clone Wars.

The film was praised for its increased emphasis on action and costume design but criticized for the screenplay, particularly Christensen's performance. The film's working title was Jar Jar's Great Adventure, but since Star Wars icon Lando Calrissian came from a planet of clones, Lucas decided to use ""Clone Wars"" referring to the army of clone stormtroopers.

The Attack of the Clones used HDW-F900 developed by Sony and Panavision with Ben Burtt's. The film emphasized "digital doubles" for actors and a CGI-created version of the character Yoda tested by Rob Coleman and John Knoll. The film’s soundtrack was conducted by John Williams and performed by the London Voices/Symphony Orchestra.
