Original Vintage Movie Posters @ Film/Art Gallery

Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Abe Levitow vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic creations.

American animator Abraham Levitow (July 2, 1922 – May 8, 1975) was known for his works at Warner Brothers Studios in 1940 and at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. He received his first animation credit in 1953, working with Chuck Jones, and directed many cartoons in 1959, such as the Pepé Le Pew cartoon "Really Scent".

Levitow is the author for the fictional character Mr. Magoo, created at the UPA animation studio in 1949. It was voiced by Jim Backus, about an elderly and wealthy retiree who gets into a series of comical situations. His feature comedy animated film 1001 Arabian Nights (1959), produced by United Productions of America (UPA), is an adaptation of the Arab folktale story Aladdin. In 1962, his theatrical feature Gay Purr-ee was released with the voices of Robert Goulet, Judy Garland, and others. He co-directed the feature film The Phantom Tollbooth (1970), an American fantasy film based on Norton Juster's 1961 children's book of the same name. It was produced by Chuck Jones and stars Butch Patrick as Milo, with voice talents of Mel Blanc, Daws Butler, Candy Candido, and Hans Conried.

He remained with Warner Brothers for the next fifteen years, in which he had a brief spell at MGM, turning out 'Tom & Jerry' cartoons. In January 1972, he set up his own production company, Levitow /Hanson Films, which specialized in animated commercial projects. He died in 1975 at the premature age of 52.

Film/Art Gallery’s collection of original Abraham Levitow movie posters include an Italian 2 Foglio (39x55) poster of Gay Purr-ee (Musetta alla Conquista Di Parigi), with Rodolfo Gasparri artwork for the animated musical about some French cats, one of which is voiced by Judy Garland.
