Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original A Woman Under the Influence vintage movie posters, where we offer a wide range of artwork for cinema's ultimate drama film.
A Woman Under the Influence is an American drama film released in 1974. The film was written and directed by John Cassavetes, who was driven to write when Gena Rowlands, his spouse, expressed a desire to appear in a play about the difficulties faced by modern women. His completed script was so powerful and expressive she knew she would be unable to perform, so John Cassavetes decided to adapt it for the screen.
In 1990, the film was carefully chosen for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant", one of the first fifty films to be so honored.
Gena Rowlands won Golden Globe Award for Best Actress by Motion Picture Drama. She also won Kansas City Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress
The story is about a Los Angeles housewife and mother (Gena Rowlands) whose unusual behavior leads to fighting with her blue-collar husband (Peter Falk) and family. Mabel (Gena Rowlands) loves her construction-worker husband Nick and badly wants to please him, but the bizarre mannerisms and increasingly odd behavior she displays has him worried. She has become a threat to herself and others, he reluctantly sends her to an institution, where she undergoes treatment for six months.
