Welcome to Film Art Gallery's collection of vintage posters for 2001: A Space Odyssey.

These original vintage movie posters are from our collection for 2001: A Space Odyssey starring Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood, directed and co-written by Stanley Kubrick.

Included are U.S. 1 sheets, inserts and half sheets as well as French, Italian, Polish and Czech posters.

Based on Arthur C. Clarke's short story "The Sentinel," the 1968 science fiction adventure screenplay was written by Clarke and Kubrick. In the film, a discovery underneath the moon's surface leads a space crew on an expedition to Jupiter. Aided by the computer HAL 9000, the team sets out to solve the mysteries of mankind's origins.

U.S. film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer handled financing as well as distribution for 2001: A Space Odyssey. In conjunction with Kubrick's own company, most of the production process was completed in Britain for tax purposes.

The movie explores themes of evolution and artificial intelligence. It earned four Oscars nominations - including Stanley Kubrick for Best Director - became a cult hit and spawned a sequel in 1984. Aram Khachaturian, György Ligeti, Johann Strauss II and Richard Strauss contributed to the film's memorable soundtrack.

2001: A Space Odyssey has left a lasting impression. It was chosen to be preserved in the National Film Registry by the United States Library of Congress in 1991 and continues to be hailed by critics to this day.
