Adieu to Delon and Gena plus rare BLADE RUNNER, FACES, BUTCH CASSIDY, CONFORMIST, Leone, Varda and ALICE IN ACIDLAND
Dear Friends and Movie Lovers: Hello from Hollywood. I was planning on sending this out next week, but I wanted to mention Gena and Delon before any more time passed. Because he got his start based on looks, Delon's career was surprisingly long; while he made a lot of forgettable films, there are some great posters for his classics. See ours here
And a couple of things about Gena: 1. No matter how brassy (TONY ROME), unreliable (OPENING NIGHT), maddening (WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE) her characters were, you always rooted for her. She didn't play for sympathy or likability (she was never "cute"), but she didn't have to - she always had our respect. And as for the Cassavetes posters, no matter how loose or shaggy some of those movies were, the ad campaigns were meticulously designed and executed. Brilliant images and art direction.
