HOT! Marilyn + Avedon; REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE; GOODFELLAS, DON'T LOOK BACK and more for April
Hello from Hollywood.
Considering all the great photos that MM and Richard Avedon collaborated on, it's kind of - well, sad - that 'Sad Marilyn' has become their most celebrated photo. I get that people are fascinated by the slack-faced image of the "real' Marilyn, but we are talking about one of the world's greatest photographers + the world's greatest model, ever. I mean, look at these sensational SOME LIKE IT HOT (1959) stills that we just acquired: glamorous, joyful, genius. Two legends at their peak, it doesn't get any better.
Yesterday I read a NYT article about Val Kilmer's career, and how he had turned down a role in THE OUTSIDERS to appear on Broadway. That rang a bell, and reminded me of a theater poster in our archives: "Slab Boys". It only ran for about 6 weeks in early 1983, but look at the photo: along with Val, there's Jackie Earle Haley, Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon. And apparently Penn auditioned for Coppola's film as well. Maybe Bacon and Haley too? In any case, it's a neat poster and bit of Broadway history, just listed. More of our Val posters here
