Being There (1979), an American comedy drama film, directed by Hal Ashby. Based on the 1970 novel by Jerzy Kosiński of the same name, the film was revised for the screen by Kosiński and the uncredited Robert C. Jones. The film stars Shirley MacLaine and Peter Sellers. Simple minded and middle aged Chance lives in the townhouse of a wealthy old man in Washington, D.C. He has lived his whole life working in the garden and has never left the property. His knowledge of the outside world is derived entirely from what he sees on television. When his benefactor dies, Chance naively tells the lawyers that he has no claim against the estate and is ordered to move out.

American film Wild at Heart (1990) is a black comedy romantic crime film written and directed by David Lynch and starring Nicolas Cage, based on Barry Gifford's 1989 novel of the same name. The film tells the story about Sailor Ripley and Lula Pace Fortune, a young couple from Cape Fear, North Carolina, who go on the run from her overbearing mother and the gangsters she hires to kill the Sailor. Lovers Lula and Sailor parted after he is incarcerated for killing a man who attacked him with a knife; the assailant that was hired by Lula's mother, Marietta Fortune. The Sailor was discharged from prison and Lula picks him up at the prison, where she hands him his snakeskin jacket. They drive in to a hotel where she reserved a room, make love, and go to see the speed metal band Powermad. Sailor and Lula finally decided to run away to California, breaking Sailor's parole. Marietta hires private detective Johnnie Farragut, her on-off boyfriend, to find them and bring them back. Nonetheless, Marietta also hires gangster Marcello Santos to track them and kill Sailor.

Lost Highway (1997) is co-written and directed by David Lynch, and Barry Gifford. It stars Patricia Arquette, Bill Pullman, Robert Blake and Balthazar Getty. The film revolves around a musician who is getting mysterious VHS tapes of him and his wife in their home, and who is suddenly convicted of murder, after which he inexplicably vanishes and is replaced by a young mechanic leading a different life.
