American film director and screenwriter Joseph W. Sarno (March 15, 1921 – April 26, 2010) was responsible for proto-pornographic sexploitation and shot-on-video features for the 1980s video market. He completed Nude in Charcoal, a 1961 feature film written and co-directed by Joseph W. Sarno, and his best-known films Sin in the Suburbs (1964), The Swap, and How They Made It (1966) and Moonlighting Wives (1966).

His soft-core amateur features were All the Sins of Sodom and Vibrations, both in 1968, Passion in Hot Hollows (1969), Daddy, Darling (1970), Young Playthings (1972), Sleepyhead (1973) featuring Georgina Spelvin and Tina Russell, Confessions of a Young American Housewife (1974), Misty (1975), Deep Throat Part 2 (1974), the R-rated sequel to the hardcore classic Deep Throat and had worked with actresses Marie Liljedahl, Christina Lindberg, Helli Louise, Marie Forså and adult film stars as Harry Reems, Eric Edwards, Jamie Gillis, Marc Stevens, Marlene Willoughby, Gloria Leonard, Sonny Landham, Seka, and Ron Jeremy.

He was married to Peggy Steffans and had a son. He died of natural causes on 2010 at the age of 89 in his native city, New York City.
