Original Vintage Movie Posters @ Film/Art Gallery

Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Robert Rossen vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic creations.

American screenwriter, film director, and producer Robert Rossen (March 16, 1908 – February 18, 1966) changed his name from Rosen to Rossen in 1931 and started his theatrical career in stock and off-Broadway productions. He directed John Wexley's Steel, Richard Maibaum's The Tree, a year later Rossen directed Birthright which triumphed in Germany in 1933.

Rossen wrote and directed his first play in 1935, The Body Beautiful which caught the attention of director Mervyn LeRoy, signing him as a contracted screenwriter. He then co-wrote, with Abem Finkel, a script about gangster Lucky Luciano, titled Marked Woman (1937), Rossen's first Hollywood credit. His first solo script was for They Won't Forget (1937), lynching of Leo Frank featuring Lana Turner, and he co-wrote Dust Be My Destiny (1939). The Sea Wolf (1941) and Blues in the Night (1941) were also written by Rossen. He later signed a contract to Hal Wallis company but wrote only two full scripts: The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946) and Desert Fury in 1947. Rossen directed Abraham Polonsky's script of Body and Soula and All the King's Men (1949) by Robert Penn Warren. In 1961, Rossen directed The Hustler, co-writing it with Sidney Carroll. The film won two Academy Awards along with other nominations, winning the Best Director by the New York Film Critics Circle with Carroll the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Written Drama

Rossen was already ill when he started on his final film, Lilith (1964). He was planning Cocoa Beach, but he died at 57 on 1966, following a series of illnesses, with his wife Susan and son Stephen and daughters Carol and Ellen.
