Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of the vintage original Myra Breckinridge posters, where we provide a substantial choice of artwork for the cinema's ultimate film series.

Myra Breckinridge is an American comedy film, released in 1970. Adapted from Gore Vidal's 1968 novel, the film was directed by Michael Sarne and featured Raquel Welch in the starring role. It also starred John Huston, Mae West, Farrah Fawcett, Rex Reed, Roger Herren, and Roger C. Carmel. Tom Selleck made his film debut in a small role as one of Leticia's "studs". Theadora Van Runkle was costumier for the film, though Edith Head designed West's costumes.

Like the novel, the movie follows the exploits of Myra Breckinridge, a transgender woman who has undergone a gender reassignment operation. Claiming to be her own widow, she manipulates her uncle into giving her an edge at his acting school, where she attempts to usurp Hollywood's social order by introducing femdom into the curriculum.

Myra Breckinridge was a box-office failure in part because of the complete and utter critical savaging of this movie - a reception that would only be termed as "disastrous". The film's failure is considered to have wrecked the careers of its writer and director. The critical and financial flop also seriously hurt Raquel Welch, who never achieved the star status that had been predicted for her.

The picture was controversial for its sexual explicitness (including acts like female-on-male rape), but it, unlike the novel, received little to no critical praise and has been cited as one of the worst films ever made.

Film/Art Gallery's movie posters are original prints and film poster collectibles. These are original Myra Breckinridge movie posters. We don't carry reproductions or reprints of any kind.
