American comedian, filmmaker, actor, singer, and humanitarian Jerry Lewis, nicknamed "The King of Comedy"(March 16, 1926 – August 20, 2017), appeared in over sixty films from the Dean Martin and Lewis partnership at the Glass Hat Club in New York City. They had made their debut on Toast of the Town (later renamed as The Ed Sullivan Show on 1955). The duo made a guest stint on The Milton Berle Show and on Welcome Aboard on 1948. They were the ensemble players in My Friend Irma (1949) and its sequel, My Friend Irma Goes West in 1950. In the same year, the duo signed as weekly rotating hosts of The Colgate Comedy Hour with Norman Lear and Ed Simmons.

Martin and Lewis made their film Road to Bali (1952), around the time DC Comics published The Adventures of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, from 1952 to 1957. The partnership came under strain when Look magazine published a publicity photo of the team but cropped Martin out. Lewis then continued solo, directing more films that he had co-written with Richmond, including The Ladies Man in 1961.

Lewis performed with Sammy Davis Jr. at Bally's in Las Vegas, with a second double act, and hosted in 1988 America's All-Time Favorite Movies, by Howard Cosell. He made his Broadway debut in a revival of Damn Yankees and appeared on Inside the Actors Studio in 1996. Lewis suffered an end-stage cardiac disease and died in Las Vegas, Nevada, on August 20, 2017 at the age of 91.
