Krzysztof Kieslowski was a film director and screenwriter. He is known internationally for his movies, such as Dekalog in 1989, The Double Life of Veronique In 1991, and the Three Colors trilogy from 1993 to 1994. In 2002, he was listed number two in the top ten film directors of modern times by the British Film Institute’s Sight and Sound.

He has received numerous awards and nominations, starting with the Kraskow Film Festival, winning the Golden Hobby-Horse in 1974. His awards and nominations include A Short Film About Killin won the Bodil Award for Best European Film in 1990, Canned Film Festival for FIPRESCI Prize in 1988, Cannes Film Festival for Jury Prize, Cannes Film Festival Nomination for the Palme d’Or in 1988, and the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics Award for Best Foreign Film. The film Dekalog won the Bodil Award for Best European Film in 1991, the Venice Film Festival Children, and the Cinema Award in 1989 and the Venice Film Festival FIPRESCI Prize in 1989. The Double Life of Veronique won the Cannes Film Festival FIPRESCI Prize and the Cannes Film Festival Prize of the Ecumenical Jury in 1991, the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics Award for Best Foreign Film in 1992, the Argentine Film Critics Association Silver Condor Nomination for Best Foreign Film in 1992, and the Warsaw International Film Festival Audience Award in 1991. The Three Colors trilogy receives Cesar Nominations, won in Venice Film Festival, won in Berlin International Film Festival, recieved Academy Award Nominations, BAFTA Nominations, won a Bodil Award, Cannes Film Festival Nomination, won the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics Award, and won the Vancouver International Film Festival.

Krzysztof Kieslowski was born on June 27, 1941 in Warsaw, Poland and died on March 13, 1996 in Warsaw, Poland. He entered college in 1957 for Theatre Technicians in Warsaw. He wanted to become a theater director; however, it required bachelor’s degree, so, he studied film as a first step.
