Burton Raphael Kennedy was an American screenwriter and director known mostly for directing Westerns. His directorial debut film was The Canadians in 1961. He started directing TV episodes, including Lawman, The Virginian, and Combat! He directed comedy films, like Mail Order Bride in 1964, followed by The Rounders in 1965 which led to TV series. He directed contemporary films, for instance, The Money Trap in 1966 and then Return of the Seven, a continuation to The Magnificent Seven. He also directed the War Wagon, Welcome to Hard Times, and Return of the Gunfighter in the same year in 1967. He had huge success with the comedy Western Support Your Local Sheriff in 1969. He directed two movies, Young Billy Young and The Good Guys and the Bad Guys, both in the same year, 1969. The following year, he directed another comedy Western, Dirty Dingus Magee. His last movie that he directed were Suburban Commando in 1991 and the movie Comanche in 2000.

Before Kennedy directed films, he found work writing for radio in 1948. He wrote 13 episodes for a TV series about Mexicans, though it was not produced. It led him to write Seven Men from Now in 1956, for Batjac Productions. He also wrote Gun the Man Down and Man in the Vault in 1956. He wrote the script for the movie White Hunter Black Heart in 1990.

He was put under contract by Warner Bros whom he wrote Fort Dobbs in 1958 and Yellowstone Kelly in 1959. He also wrote Ride Lonesome in 1959 and Comache Station in 1960. The Palm Springs Walk of Stars dedicated a Golden Palm Star for Kennedy in 1996.

Ken Kennedy was born on September 3, 1922, in Muskegon, Michigan and died of cancer on February 15, 2001, in Sherman Oaks, California.
