Vertigo is an American noir psychological thriller film, created and directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1958. The feature film was based on the novel D'entre les morts, also known as From Among the Dead by Boileau-Narcejac, and the screenplay was written by Alec Coppel and Samuel A Taylor. The film received several reviews, and it was quoted as a classic Hitchcook film and one of the defining works of his career. 

The leading stars for the film are  James Stewart, Kim Novak, Barbara Bel Geddes, Tom Helmore, Henry Jones, Ellen Corby, Raymond Bailey, Konstantin Shayne, and Lee Patrick. 

The movie was one of the first 25 films choosen for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant in 1989. 

In 2002, Sight & Sound poll of international critics ranked Vertigo second just after Citizen Kane in 1941 as the best film ever made. After 10 years, the same poll in 2012, the film was voted first place as the best film ever made by critics. 

The film has been recognized by American Film Institute in the best 100 movies. In 1998, it was ranked 61. In 2001, it was ranked 18. In 2005, it was ranked 12 and 9th in their 10th Anniversary Edition in 2007. And in 2008, the film was ranked top 1 Mystery in American Film Institute Top 10 Movies. 

In March 1998, the film Vertigo was first released on DVD by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and released on Blu-Ray on September 25, 2012.
