This is a haunting film about the disappearance of a child. A cinematic essay about what things seem to be, yet are not. It plays with the idea of appearances and disappearance. The tension in the film centers around a young woman who reports her child missing, and yet, when questioned, finds herself unable to provide any proof of her existence. The mystery remains and the audience is held in suspense as the story unfolds. Bass' poster alludes to this seeming contradiction through the image of a child torn out of paper. Like the missing piece of a jigsaw puzzle, the design cleverly suggests both the child's presence and absence. Disappearance is also echoed in the fading capital letters of the word 'missing', as they shift from solid black to gray and almost fading away completely.
