American film director and photographer Jerry Schatzberg was born on June 26, 1927. He who grew up in the Bronx and worked for the monthly fashion and lifestyle magazine Vogue, men’s magazine Esquire, and McCalls. He is most famous for his cover photo of the Bob Dylan album Blonde on Blonde in 1966. He directed the static and fatuous debut feature film Puzzle of a Downfall Child (1970), an American drama film starring Faye Dunaway, Barry Morse, Viveca Lindfors, Roy Scheider, and Barry Primus. He also directed the films The Panic in Needle Park, the nickname for an area on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, with screenplay by John Gregory Dunne and Joan Didion, from the 1966 novel by James Mills, starring Al Pacino, and Scarecrow 1971 which shared the 1973 Cannes Film Festival grand prize.

Schatzberg had collaborated with producer Martin Bregman for the American film The Seduction of Joe Tynan and screenplay by six-time Emmy Awardee Alan Alda who played the title role himself, Honeysuckle Rose with Willie Nelson and Misunderstood which was based on a novel by English writer Florence Montgomery and Street Smart in 1987, a dramatic crime thriller film starring Christopher Reeve Kathy Baker and Morgan Freeman wherein he earned his first Oscar Nomination. He became a member of the jury at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.

He divorced in Mexico in 1968 from an eleven years separation from wife Corinne and married to actress Maureen Kerwin in 1983, but ended in divorce in 1998.
