Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Fitzcarraldo vintage movie posters. Film/Art Gallery offers a wide range of movie posters and artwork for one of cinema's ultimate adventure-drama films.

Fitzcarraldo is a West German epic adventure-drama film in 1982 written and directed by Werner Herzog and starring Klaus Kinski as the title character. It characterized would-be rubber baron Brian Sweeney Fitzgerald, an Irishman known in Peru as Fitzcarraldo, who is intent on transporting a steamship over a steep hill in order to acquire a rich rubber territory in the Amazon Basin. The film's story is sourced from the momentous events of Peruvian rubber baron Carlos Fitzcarrald and his actual feat of transferring a disassembled steamboat over the Isthmus of Fitzcarrald.

Fitzcarraldo is an obsessed opera lover who wants to make an opera in the jungle. To fulfill this he has to amass a fortune in the rubber business, and his cunning plan involves hauling an extensive river boat across a small mountain with aid from the local Indians.

The film had a difficult production. Herzog exacted his crew to manually haul the 320-ton steamship up a steep hill, leading to three injuries. The film's original star Jason Robards got unwell halfway through filming, so Herzog hired Kinski, with whom he had previously had conflict during the production of Aguirre, the Wrath of God, Nosferatu the Vampyre and Woyzeck.

Film/Art Gallery’s collection of original Fitzcarraldo movie posters include a Czech poster artwork by Jan Tomanek. The Fitzcarraldo poster collection also includes a poster artwork by Jean Mascii.

Film/Art Gallery movie posters are original prints and film poster collectibles. These are original movie posters. We do not carry any movie poster reproductions or reprints of any kind.
