Welcome to the official Film/Art Gallery collection of original Ingmar Bergman vintage movie posters from his critically acclaimed catalog of timeless cinematic creations.

Ernst Ingmar Bergman (born July 14th, 1918 — passed away July 30th, 2007) is a Swedish film writer and director who was noted for his versatile camera work and fragmented narrative style. In 1941, he produced a spectacularly unconventional and disastrous production of the Swedish playwright August Strindberg’s The Ghost Sonata and met Carl-Anders Dymling. He later created an original screenplay, Hets (1944; Frenzy, or Torment) directed by Alf Sjöberg.

In 1945, Ingmar Bergman finally wrote and directed his own film, Kris (1946; Crisis), and his first film based on an original screenplay, Fängelse (1949: Prison, or The Devil’s Wanton). He had his first great international success with Smiles of a Summer Night, a bittersweet romantic comedy-drama in a period setting in 1955. His memoir, Laterna Magica (The Magic Lantern), was published in 1987. In 1976 he had a famous tax problem. Ingmar Bergman then returned to Sweden a few years later and made his last theatrical film Fanny and Alexander (1982) (A.K.A. 'Fanny and Alexander').

His trilogy of films, made up of Through a Glass Darkly (which won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film), Winter Light, and The Silence, was his crowning achievement. He wrote several novels, including Söndagsbarn (1993; Sunday’s Children) and Enskilda Samtal (1996; Private Confessions), which were made into films. Bergman also directed the critically acclaimed Saraband (2003), with main characters from Scenes from a Marriage. He retired from movie directing but still wrote film and T.V. scripts, and he directed plays at the Swedish Royal Dramatic Theatre for many years until his death on July 30th, 2007.

Film/Art Gallery’s collection of original Ingmar Bergman performance posters include a rare poster for the acclaimed drama Skammen, starring Liv Ullmann and Max Von Sydow. Also included in the Ingmar Bergman poster collection is a Ferenc Toreky artwork for the first Hungarian release of Wild Strawberries.

Film/Art Gallery movie posters are original prints and film poster collectibles. These are original movie posters. We do not carry any movie poster reproductions or reprints of any kind.
