Lana Turner, or Julia Jean Turner, (February 8, 1921 – June 29, 1995) was an American actress and one of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's (MGM) biggest stars. Turner was spotted by publisher William R. Wilkerson of The Hollywood Reporter and referred to Zeppo Marx and film director Mervyn LeRoy, who signed her to a $50 weekly contract with Warner Bros. Her feature film debut was with Edward Norris and Turner in They Won't Forget (1937), a crime drama in which she played a teenage murder victim.

In 1942, she eloped with Joseph Stephen "Steve" Crane but was annulled four months later. After discovering she was pregnant, she remarried Crane in Tijuana in 1943 and was still able to film the comedy Marriage Is a Private Affair.

Turner had a lead role in her second musical, Ziegfeld Girl (1941), opposite James Stewart and Judy Garland, portraying Sheila Regan. She took a supporting role in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941), a Freudian-influenced horror film. In January 1982, Turner reprised her role in Murder Among Friends, which toured throughout the U.S. with Bob Fosse's Dancin'. In 1994, she made her final public appearance at the San Sebastián International Film Festival in Spain to accept a Lifetime Achievement Award.

She died at the age of 74 on June 1995 of complications from the cancer. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and Complex named her the eighth-most infamous actress of all time in 2012.
